I HAD TO CROSS THE BUCKMAN TO GET HERE, SO. SO, HERE YOU ARE LOOKING AT SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE QUITE FAMILIAR AND COMFORTING BUT ALSO INSPIRING. IN CALENDAR YEAR 2019 WE'RE ESTIMATING THAT VISITORS TO CLAY COUNTY HAVE INVESTED OVER $50 MILLION INTO THIS LOCAL ECONOMY. THAT INVESTMENT IMPROVES THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR OUR RESIDENTS AND IT ALLOWS 5,000 PEOPLE TO GO TO WORK EVERY DAY. WITHOUT THOSE INVESTMENT DOLLARS FROM VISITORS, THERE IS NO WORK FOR THE 5,000 RESIDENTS. WITHOUT THE 50 MILLION IN [00:05:05] INVESTMENT DOLLARS, THERE'S NO CHANCE TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR THE RESIDENTS AS WELL. SO, WE'RE TAKING AVERAGES THAT ARE BEING COLLECTED AT THE REGIONAL LEVEL AND THEN WE'RE ABLE TO PUT THOSE INTO OUR FORMULA WHICH IS PREDICATED OR BASED ON THE NUMBER OF HOTEL ROOMS THAT ARE AVAILABLE. SO THE BACK OF THE INDEX CARD ANSWER IS: TO GROW THIS NUMBER IS TO CONTINUE TO FUND INITIATIVES THAT INCREASE OVERNIGHT VISITATION. AND THAT IN TURN WILL SPUR DEVELOPERS TO SEE RISING RATES IN OCCUPANCY AND START TO CONSIDER THE SHOVEL READY SITES TO BUILD NEW PROPERTIES. I'M SEEING ENOUGH HEAD NODS THAT I'M RESONATING WITH SOME OF THE COUNCIL HERE TODAY. >> BOARD MEMBER: I HAVE A QUESTION. WHEN YOU SAY VISIT FLORIDA HAS NUMBERS FOR REGIONS, DO THEY BREAK IT DOWN? ARE THESE NUMBERS FOR OUR COUNTY OR NORTHEAST FLORIDA? >> SPEAKER: YES AND YES WITH AN ASTERISK. WHAT VISIT FLORIDA DOES IS THEY ENGAGE IN A PANEL RESEARCH WITH A THIRD-PARTY SUPPLIER. THE THIRD-PARTY SUPPLIER WILL ASK TRAVELLERS FROM ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES AND WITHIN THEIR PANEL, HAVE YOU TRAVELED TO FLORIDA IN THE PAST NUMBER OF MONTHS. WHAT REGIONS OF FLORIDA? WHAT CITIES HAVE YOU VISITED, IN THAT TIMEFRAME. AND THEN WHAT CITIES WITHIN THAT REGION HAVE YOU VISITED. DID YOU STAY OVERNIGHT. SO, ON AND SO FORTH. WHAT WE'LL DO HERE IN CLAY COUNTY IS WE WILL COMBINE THE INFORMATION FROM OUR TECHNICAL REGION WHICH WOULD BE NORTHEAST OF FLORIDA AS WELL AS OUR NON-TECHNICAL REGION WHICH WOULD BE NORTH-CENTRAL FLORIDA. THE REASON WE'LL DO THAT IS BECAUSE CLAY COUNTY HAS MORE IN COMMON FROM ITS DEMOGRAPHIC AND RURAL MAKEUP WITH A NORTH-CENTRAL VACATION REGION. AND WE DON'T WANT THE VISITATION THAT MIGHT TAKE PLACE IN ST. AUGUSTINE OR JACKSONVILLE, FOR EXAMPLE, TO OVERWEIGHT WHAT WE MIGHT DETERMINE IS OUR SAMPLE. WE ALSO HAVE THE BENEFIT OF LOOKING AT COUNTY TAX RECEIPT DATA WHICH HELPS US BALANCE THE DATA, KIND OF PASS THAT IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE TEST. WHEN WE LOOK AT OUR TOTAL NUMBER AND COMPARE IT TO COUNTY TAX RECEIPTS WE FIND THAT WE ARE WITHIN OUR VECTOR WHERE WE WANT TO END UP. A LOT OF THE GOVERNMENT TRAVEL, SPORTS TEAM, GROUP TRAVELS TRYING TO RESTRICT. THEY'VE REALLOCATED THE DOLLARS THEY WERE SPENDING IN MARKETING IN CHINA AND REALLOCATED THEM TO DOMESTIC TRAVEL AND THE DOMESTIC MARKETS. THEY'RE ENCOURAGING PEOPLE -- I MEAN, FACE IT, RESTAURANTS, HOTELS, YOU ALL NEED BUSINESS -- YOU NEED VISITORS TO TRAVEL TO KEEP YOUR DOORS OPEN. SO, WE'RE DEFINITELY ENCOURAGING [00:15:04] THAT. WE'RE CONTINUING TO MARKET. I THINK EVERYONE'S CONTINUING TO MARKET AND STAY OPEN FOR BUSINESS AS LONG AS -- I MEAN, THERE'S NO, YOU KNOW, COMMUNAL THREAT. NONE OF THE CASES IN FLORIDA HAVE BEEN A COMMUNAL THREAT. BECAUSE PEOPLE HAVE TRAVELED EITHER ON A CRUISE SHIP OR TRAVELED TO ONE OF THE FIVE AREAS THAT HAVE BEEN INUNDATED WITH THE VIRUS. SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THAT'S THE MESSAGE. AND THIS IS FLU SEASON ANYWAY. IF PEOPLE CAN CONTINUE TO JUST WASH THEIR HANDS AND GO ABOUT THEIR NORMAL LIFE, INCLUDING TRAVELING, THAT WOULD BE -- THAT'S THE BEST PRACTICE.
