WHEN I WAS IN UNIFORM I REMEMBER THE FRUSTRATION AND HELPLESSNESS I FELT WHEN WE LOST ONE OF OUR SOLDIERS TO SUICIDE SO I WAS HONORED TO BE PART OF THIS INITIATIVE. I WANT TO GIVE YOU BOTH A PROGRESS REPORT AND TELL YOU WHERE WE ARE GOING. WE STARTED THIS IN MAY OF 2020 WITH VARIOUS PROGRAMS, PRIMARY BEING THE WATCH STANDARD. IT WAS DEVELOPED TO HELP WHAT WE CALL ENGAGED 90% . FOR US AS VETERANS NINE OUT OF 10 PEOPLE WE ENCOUNTER ARE NOT VETERANS SO IF WE WAIT ON VETERANS TO CURE THE VETERAN SUICIDE PROBLEM THERE AREN'T ENOUGH. HOW CAN WE ENGAGE THE 90% OF AMERICANS WHO WANT TO DO SOMETHING BUT DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO? WE CREATED A PROGRAM AND HAVE ALMOST 8000 PEOPLE WHO BEEN THROUGH THAT. IN THESE 8000 PEOPLE OF REFERRING VETERANS TO CARE WE HAD OVER 8000 REFERRALS LAST YEAR , ALMOST LIKE CPR. YOU DON'T BECOME A DOCTOR, YOU GET SOMEBODY TO CARE AND THAT'S WHAT WE WANT. WE WANT STANDING WATCH FOR YOUR VETERAN FRIENDS. WHAT WE HAVE DONE EACH YEAR WE HAVE BEEN IN EXISTENCE IN NORTHEAST FLORIDA THE SUICIDE RATE HAS GONE DOWN SOME TIME AS MUCH AS 50% BUT ON AVERAGE 25%.THAT MEANS 103 VETERANS IN NORTHEAST FLORIDA ARE ALIVE TODAY BECAUSE WE HAD PEOPLE WHO CARED ABOUT THEM AND SURROUNDED THEM WITH A SEA OF GOODWILL. THIS COMMISSION WAS AT THE BEGINNING OF IT AND YOUR SUPPORT AND RESOURCES MAKE THIS POSSIBLE. OUR GOAL WAS TO TAKE THIS IDEA AND SEE IF WE COULD TAKE IT FOR LONG TERM. WE ARE NOW CHANGING THE FIRE WATCH COUNSEL AND DOING SOMETHING CALLED THE FIRE WATCH PROJECT.

THE PLAT NEVER DEDICATED THE ROAD TO THE COUNTY BUT WHEN THE CORPORATION BOUGHT THAT IN 1934 THEY DID SAY THEY BOUGHT ALL ROADS ASSOCIATED WITH IT BUT WHEN YOU BUY PROPERTY HAVE TO PAY TAXES ON IT. I KNOW IT HASN'T NOT BEEN AN EASY DECISION FOR ANYBODY BUT I JUST WANTED TO GIVE MY OWN TAKE AS A LOCAL BUSINESS OWNER IS ONE OF THE HARDEST STRUGGLES DEALING WITH THE COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE TRYING TO CONVINCE PEOPLE THAT THE CHEAPEST OPTION IS NOT ALWAYS THE BEST OR MOST FITTING OPTION FOR WHAT WE ARE DOING ESPECIALLY WHEN DEALING WITH SUCH A MASS OF PEOPLE. I'VE COLLECTED 105 CLAY COUNTY RESIDENTS WHO PERSONALLY EMAILED ME BECAUSE I DID VOICE ABOUT COMING TO THE COMMISSIONERS MEETING TODAY WERE NOT ABLE TO MAKE IT TO EXPRESS THEIR CONCERNS WITH THE SAME TRASH MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AS WELL AS A LIST OF 17 NAMES WITH A LIST OF GRIEVANCES RANGING BETWEEN 1 TO 5 SENTENCES AND FIVE PARAGRAPHS THAT I READ THROUGH. I DON'T WANT TO WASTE ANYONE'S TIME BY READING EVERYTHING BUT I DID CONSOLIDATE THEM INTO EIGHT MAJOR BULLET POINTS OF CONCERN PEOPLE HAVE.
