NOW, SHORTLY AFTER THE BEGINNING OF WORLD WAR II, A LARGE PLOT OF LAND WAS PURCHASED BY THE NAVY IN AN AREA WHICH IS NOW OAKLEAF. AND A VERY LARGE HEXAGON WILL SHAPE RUNWAY WAS PLANNED FOR IT. AND IT HAD CRISSCROSSED RUNWAYS. THAT FIELD BECAME KNOWN AS BRANAN FIELD. THAT'S WHERE THE STREET, BRANAN FIELD, GOT ITS NAME. A DIRECT REFERENCE TO THIS AIRFIELD. NOW, AFTER THE WAR, THE BLUE ANGELS THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A REALLY GOOD PLACE TO PRACTICE. AND IN DOING THAT, THEY WOULD USE THE RUNWAYS TO PRACTICE THEIR HIGH-SPEED PASSES AND THOSE KINDS OF MANEUVERS, BECAUSE THEY WERE ABLE TO USE THESE CRISSCROSSING RUNWAYS CITE REFERENCES.HEY WERE VERY LONG RUNWAYS -- SEVERAL THOUSAND FEET, EACH ONE OF THEM. IN DOING RESEARCH TO PROVE THAT THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED THERE, I CONTACTED THE NATIONAL AVIATION MUSEUM IN PENSACOLA, WHERE I EMAILED -- SPOKE -- TO MY FORMER COMMANDING OFFICER OF VP 40. SO WITH THAT SAID, WE HAVE TWO RECOMMENDATIONS ON LOCATION FOR THE MARKER.NE IS ON PRIVATE PROPERTY OWNED BY THE OAKLEAF VILLAGE ATHLETIC CENTER. HAT'S MARKED WITH A RED STAR. THAT WOULD BE ON THEIR PROPERTY, BUT IN A SPOT THAT THEY CONSIDER THEIR CLUBHOUSE OR VISITORS CENTER. IT DOES HAVE A LOT OF FOOT TRAFFIC, BUT IT IS NOT NECESSARILY PUBLIC, PER SE. ALTHOUGH I WILL TELL YOU FROM EXPERIENCE, A LOT OF PUBLIC DOES GO TO THIS LOCATION BECAUSE OF THE ATHLETIC FIELDS THERE. THEY HOST IN IN FOOTBALL, SOCCER CLUBS. I TOOK MY BOYS THERE ARE A MILLION TIMES FOR THEM TO PLAY FOOTBALL (LAUGHING) AND I DON'T LIVE OUT THERE. SO THERE IS A PUBLIC COMPONENT [00:10:01] TO THIS LOCATION, EVEN IF IT'S ON THAT PRIVATE PROPERTY. THE OTHER OPTION HE GAVE US IS THE YELLOW STAR. AND THAT IS ACTUALLY AT THE INTERSECTION OF PLANTATION OAKS LANE BOULEVARD AND OAKLEAF VILLAGE PARKWAY. I'LL PARAPHRASE THAT JAY HAD PROS AND CONS IN HIS EMAILS TO ME FOR BOTH LOCATIONS. BUT THAT OAKLEAF IN GENERAL, IN THIS AREA, HAS A LOT OF FOOT TRAFFIC -- A LOT OF JOGGERS, A LOT OF FOLKS BIKING, ROLLERSKATING, THAT SORT OF THING ALL THROUGH THAT AREA. THERE ARE PROS AND CONS TO BOTH LOCATIONS. I DID NOT PUT A SPECIFIC LATITUDE-LONGITUDE ON THE APPLICATION FORM FOR THAT REASON. BECAUSE I THINK THAT WHAT I CAN BRING TO YOU TONIGHT THAT I COULDN'T THE FIRST TIME WE POPPED IN TO SAY HEY, WE ARE WORKING ON THIS, IS MR.
